The Pope's Prayer Request

In his weekly Angelus message on Sunday, Pope Francis called on the world to unite in prayer to end the COVID-19 (“Coronavirus”) pandemic and stated he will offer an extraordinary blessing.

Those faithful who attend chapels administered by the Australian & New Zealand District of the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) are encouraged to unite themselves in prayer with the Pope.

The Pope has asked the everyone to join him in reciting the Our Father on the Feast of the Annunciation.

I therefore invite everyone to recite the Our Father at midday [noon Rome time] on March 25 next, on the day when many Christians recall the annunciation to the Virgin Mary of the Incarnation of the Word, so that the Lord may listen to the unanimous prayer of all his disciples that are preparing to celebrate the victory of the Risen Christ.

All Catholics, including those who receive the sacraments from the SSPX's priests, are encouraged to unite themselves in prayer with Pope Francis. Although it is possible to hold reservations concerning the ecumenical gesture embedded in the Pope's call, praying with the Sovereign Pontiff on March 25, 2020 at noon Rome time (10:00 pm Australian Eastern Daylight Time) is not communicatio in sacris (participation in a non-Catholic religious service). Rather, it is an opportunity to pray with the Church Universal for God's mercy and an end to the Coronavirus pandemic that continues to inflict suffering and death throughout the world.
