Confirmations in Rockdale

On Sunday, 25 August, the parishioners of the Church of the Child Jesus and St Joseph were blessed with the visit of His Lordship, Bishop Bernard Fellay. His Lordship administered the sacrament of Confirmation to 25 children and adults from our Rockdale, Singleton and Mudgee centres.

The ceremony began at 10:00 am with the singing of the "Veni Creator". The bishop then proceeded to give the confirmands their last lesson before receiving the sacrament. Explaining the definition of Confirmation in detail phrase by phrase, His Lordship incorporated all of the essential points of the faith that the confirmands were promising to profess and defend. Finally the children and adults approached the sanctuary one by one to kneel at the feet of the bishop for the anointing with holy chrism. They knelt down infants in the faith and arose soldiers of Christ.

After the ceremony, a Solemn High Mass was celebrated by His Lordship with Fr Fullerton and Fr Campbell assisting as deacon and subdeacon. The new soldiers of Christ sang the Creed for the first time as spiritual adults and rejoiced to receive the captain of their souls in Holy Communion.

The day finished with a small gathering after Mass, with food and drink provided by family and friends.
